Interior Design: 4 Tips for a Quick Family Room Refresh

Hey you guys! It’s almost Thanksgiving! I know that I should be posting about beautiful holiday tables, but I’m just not there yet! I’ll let you know about my thoughts on Thanksgiving next week! :)

In the meantime, this is been such a busy and wonderful year, and in the few spare moments that I have, I like to revisit client projects and take photographs and let you know about the process!

This was a small project for a repeat client that we completed in June …(we’ve done her living room and dining room — and no, I haven’t photographed those yet either!) . But I wanted to share this, because we did just a few things to update her family room, and it made some dramatic differences! You may be able to do the same before the holidays, if you are expecting guests and want to make your living spaces look fabulous!

While I didn’t take a ton of before pics — this is the one that shows the art, the sofa and a bit of the pillows ‘before’…… just to give you a glimpse….

Art before framing. How to frame art

My client had commissioned the art from a local artist, and wanted to “tie it in” to the living space. So, here’s what we did … and here are the tips that I recommend!

  1. Frame your Art Properly

While I loved the art that my client had commissioned, I felt that the raw edge of the canvas felt too casual. We decided to frame it in a floating, metallic frame, that not only made the art look amazing…it elevated the look of the room!

2. Pillows can Make A Room

I tend to go for neutral (timeless!) upholstered furniture with pops of color with pillows! Pillows can change the look of your room in an instant! We sourced these gorgeous, designer fabric pillows from Arianna Belle — and coordinated the colors to complement the art!

3. Change your Area Rug

While I don’t have a pic of the rug ‘before’, my client had a neutral sisal rug that we replaced with this tonal blue rug that added depth to the room. Rugs are kind of like pillows — they can make a huge difference!

4. Style your Coffee Table

Change up what you have going on, on your coffee table. Add some cool looking jars, fresh flowers in a unique vase and a colorful coffee table book!

And there you have it!

Interior Design: Before & After Bathroom Remodel

My clients have two young daughters and needed this bathroom to more efficient with storage and space. They wanted a timeless design in their 100 year old home that would transition with the girls as they grow from playing in the bathtub as toddlers, to maximizing space needed for makeup, hairdryers, etc as they become teenagers.

Interior Design: Before and After Dining Room

There is nothing like spending time in a happy and bright space that brings joy. This family loves to use their dining room for weekly ‘family game nights’ and theme parties as well as hosting their friends for dinner. I’m excited to share the details of the transformation!

Interior Design: A Pretty Place for Reading

In this project, in Orinda, Ca., I was tasked with coming up with a design solution for a landing space at the top of a stairwell. It was a space that was too small for a loveseat and chairs, and too big and open to use as a home office.
