Before and After: An Artistic Family Room

Hi friends! It’s been a crazy busy month — I visited my son in Austin, Texas (SO FUN! I love that city!) and have been busy with new projects and still working on Project #dreamclient’s house! (Follow me on Instagram for the daily dose of those work updates!)

I’m super excited to share a recent project with you. I was hired by my clients’ to help them zhush up their family room. Imagine how excited I was, when I walked into their home and saw incredible original art that spoke to my heart in all of their rooms! Turns out that my clients’ husband is a well known and celebrated artist and his work is sprinkled throughout the house!

The goal of this design project was to provide a comfortable seating area that complemented the existing art in my clients’ family room. They have kids, dogs and cats — so the furniture needed to be durable, pet friendly as well as beautiful!

My client is a color lover and not afraid to go BOLD! For example, her kitchen cabinets are the most gorgeous periwinkle blue!

So let’s start with the before pic:

Living Room Before

This was snapped at our first meeting - I always take pics of the room when I first meet with clients. We did not take the time to straighten cushions, etc., for the before pic. :) - it was just real life! I loved the bright green of her existing sofa, but I felt that the rolled arms on the sofa were not in keeping with the contemporary art vibe that they had going on throughout the house. We decided that a new sofa with a track arm, a new rug, new side tables, pillows and lamps would make the space look amazing! We kept the cheetah fabric chairs seen on the right in the above photo, as they are comfortable and lovely — and, to me, animal prints are a neutral…..they go with everything!

Here is the after!

We recovered their existing ottomans in a another fun animal print; added a custom, luscious blue velvet sofa (so comfortable!), new side tables, lamps, accent pillows and colorful African beads (found at our local flea market) displayed on a fabulously patterned platter along with a gorgeous coffee table book and fresh flowers on their coffee table.

Notice the new, gorgeous cowhide rug? It’s neutral, but absolutely amazing and unique! And pet friendly! See the dog in the photo? Isn’t he cute? Accidents and spills can be wiped up with a sponge on that rug! It’s so, so pretty!

Rug available through Price Style and Design.

In the next photo, we did a little switcheroo, so that you can see how great the cheetah chairs look with the new sofa!

I’m a sucker for gorgeously covered art books and a platter with African beads. :)

And, I’m so grateful that my clients allowed me to help them with their home! It was such fun!

Interior Design: Before & After Bathroom Remodel

My clients have two young daughters and needed this bathroom to more efficient with storage and space. They wanted a timeless design in their 100 year old home that would transition with the girls as they grow from playing in the bathtub as toddlers, to maximizing space needed for makeup, hairdryers, etc as they become teenagers.

Interior Design: A Pretty Place for Reading

In this project, in Orinda, Ca., I was tasked with coming up with a design solution for a landing space at the top of a stairwell. It was a space that was too small for a loveseat and chairs, and too big and open to use as a home office.
