Design Trends in the San Francisco Bay Area and Beyond

Hello!  I've been noticing some fabulous design trends not only in San Francisco (and the East Bay), but in magazines and online.  I'm wondering if you've spotted these design trends too?

Design Trend #1:  Bohemian Glam

Filled with an eclectic vibe and mixing patterns and textures, the bohemian glam design trend is all over the internet. The trick is to blend complementary or analogous colors, just the right amount of texture and some really cool stuff -- vintage brass objects, interesting light fixtures, funky pillows, or retro furniture.

I'm a color lover, so I'm smitten with this trend!  Aren't those pillows on the sofa just fabulous?

Design Trend #2:  Color

Even though the Color of the Year 2016 is Simply White -- I can't get over how much color I'm seeing in design.  Of course, what better way to showcase color in design than with white walls!

I love how Caitlin Wilson mixes analogous colors in this fabulous master bedroom design!

Design Trend #3:  Brass and Gold

From hardware to decorative accents, brass and gold are totally hot right now in interior design.

And don't be afraid to mix your metals!  Gold, brass, bronze and silver leaf all blend in this room design!

Design Trend #4:  Mid-Century Modern

There's something about the clean lines of mid-century architectural design that I love -- simple, elegant and classic.

I encourage my clients to keep their major furniture (sofas, chairs, tables) in neutral combinations -- art, accessories and pillows can be changed or added at a minimal cost when the trends change!

One final note on interior design trends.....trends can be inspiring but my design mantra is....create a home that speaks to you, your aesthetic and that brings you joy!

Interior Design: Before & After Bathroom Remodel

My clients have two young daughters and needed this bathroom to more efficient with storage and space. They wanted a timeless design in their 100 year old home that would transition with the girls as they grow from playing in the bathtub as toddlers, to maximizing space needed for makeup, hairdryers, etc as they become teenagers.

There is nothing like spending time in a happy and bright space that brings joy. This family loves to use their dining room for weekly ‘family game nights’ and theme parties as well as hosting their friends for dinner. I’m excited to share the details of the transformation!

Interior Design: A Pretty Place for Reading

In this project, in Orinda, Ca., I was tasked with coming up with a design solution for a landing space at the top of a stairwell. It was a space that was too small for a loveseat and chairs, and too big and open to use as a home office.
