5 Easy Ways to Update a Family Room

Hi there! I'm noticing that the days are getting a bit shorter and the temperature a little chillier -- and that means......the holidays will be here soon!

Now is the time to start making some interior design updates if you want your home to look swanky for the holidays!

We recently finished a Quick Style project.....that's an interior design project where we style what you have and add what you need.  :)  In this case, there were 5 key elements that we focused on in the client's space and I thought I'd share them with you!

1.  Reupholstery of Existing furniture

If you have furniture pieces that you love; are from a quality manufacturer; or are family heirlooms, then reupholstery is a great way to get a fresh new look.

The sofa and chairs in the space were given a facelift with new fabric and new interior padding.

2. Update Accent Pillows

Pillows are the easiest way to update your space!  Whether they are custom made (which is the priciest way to go) or purchased at a retail shop (lots of options and varying price points), pillows can instantly transform the look of your space.

3.  Style Bookcases and Built-ins

I can't emphasize enough that your bookcases should be a place to showcase not only books, but bits about you, your family, your travels, your collections, your history.  Incorporate items that you love and create visual balance by varying heights and grouping similar colors.

4.  Style your Mantle

Fireplace mantles are a great place to showcase art and decorative objects too.  I prefer a little asymmetry on mantles to provide visual interest.

5.  Freshen Up your Coffee Table

I love using trays to anchor a vignette on a coffee table.  Add fresh flowers and a few decorative objects (again in varying heights) and clear off clutter.  :)

Interior Design: Before & After Bathroom Remodel

My clients have two young daughters and needed this bathroom to more efficient with storage and space. They wanted a timeless design in their 100 year old home that would transition with the girls as they grow from playing in the bathtub as toddlers, to maximizing space needed for makeup, hairdryers, etc as they become teenagers.

Interior Design: A Pretty Place for Reading

In this project, in Orinda, Ca., I was tasked with coming up with a design solution for a landing space at the top of a stairwell. It was a space that was too small for a loveseat and chairs, and too big and open to use as a home office.
