3 Ways to Showcase Your Collections in Interior Design

Hi there!  I recently came across this lovely designed space and was struck by how seamlessly the designer created a room that spoke volumes about her client.  Clearly the homeowner is a collector, a travel lover and an art enthusiast!

It's so important to create a living space that makes you happy and what better way than to include items that speak to your heart.  Whether you collect treasures from your travels, or during your every day life, here are 3 key ways to include your collections in your decor:

1.  Shadow Boxes

Shadowboxes create a framable option for items that have depth to them.  You can customize the back of the shadowbox by either painting it, adding fabric or wallpaper or by using a simple matte cut to size.  Shadowboxes are available in custom sizes at your local frame shop and are also sold in standard sizes at art and frame stores.

2.  Trays or Baskets

Trays are my favorite ways to showcase artful vignettes in a space -- but I also love the idea of the organic wood tray/bowl above.  Small textural baskets would work well too!

3.  Bookshelves or Built-Ins

You know I love a styled bookcase!  Bookshelves and built-in bookcases are truly the perfect place to share and display the things that you've collected that bring you joy.  It's also a fun place to 'rotate' things around your house once or twice and year and change things up!

I hope this has inspired you to showcase your collections in your home design!

Interior Design: Before & After Bathroom Remodel

My clients have two young daughters and needed this bathroom to more efficient with storage and space. They wanted a timeless design in their 100 year old home that would transition with the girls as they grow from playing in the bathtub as toddlers, to maximizing space needed for makeup, hairdryers, etc as they become teenagers.

Interior Design: A Pretty Place for Reading

In this project, in Orinda, Ca., I was tasked with coming up with a design solution for a landing space at the top of a stairwell. It was a space that was too small for a loveseat and chairs, and too big and open to use as a home office.
