Color Theory

I love using color theory in design to create a harmonious space.

I recently worked with a client on making a few adjustments in her daughter's room with complementary colors.

What are complementary colors you ask?

Here's the before pic of her daughter's room....

(sorry for the blurry iphone pic!)

While the colors were complementary, the bedding needed a bit of's the after pic....

A lighter color bed cover provided a little softening of the room and the pillows did the talking!

Hello peoples!

This little cottage was screaming for an update.

Here's the before pic:

(And yup, that's me reflected in the mirror taking this pic with my phone!)

A new coat of paint (Benjamin Moore Affinity Color in Jute) and some new furnishings plus pillows from Pillow Love and here it is now....

Tweaking it

Sometimes all I need to do with a design client is tweak what they have....

Here are two BEFORE pics of a living room that I worked on last week....

I added a new rug from HomeGoods, a coffee table found at a consignment shop, some fresh pillows and original artwork found at a local art gallery and voila!

I believe that good design does not need to break the bank!

Tray of the Day

Yes, I'm obsessed with decorating with trays as centerpieces......

I'm loving this tray I just placed in a home I staged last week....

The tray is a vintage piece found at the flea market, along with a faux orchid and grape vine balls from HomeGoods.

This is a small one bedroom apartment for sale, and the room was staged to coordinate with the painted fireplace facade and homeowner's draperies.....

I think it turned out simple, sleek and modern feeling.

And since you're here, take a look at the bedroom.....

And just in case you think my job is glamorous --

This is what happens at the end of a long day of moving furniture....
I realized I had locked my car key in the Uhaul Truck!

Living room in a day!

Thought I'd share a little 'living room installation' that happened recently for a staging job that I did for my dear friends Finola and her sister Suzi (who are both real estate agents, and if you click on their names -- you will just flip over how beautiful these two sisters are!  They are from a huge Irish family and let me tell you...there's not an ugly one in the bunch!)

Anywho, here's how it started...

And yup, these are top quality iphone pics.....

It started with an empty room, then I added a beautiful pink and green oriental rug, coffee table perpendicular to the fireplace and green sofas and chairs...

And who doesn't love a fabulous green asian armoire?

A few pillows and accessories, and so far so good....

Creating a personalized birthday gift

My BFF celebrated her birthday recently, and I wanted to give her a unique gift.....
so what's a girl to do?

She had recently admired my decorative tray that I use as a centerpiece on my dining table, so I decided to create one just for her!

I use stylized trays a lot when I am staging, it's one of my favorite ways to dress up a table!
I went to my local consignment store and HomeGoods and gathered up my supplies...

I always start with a little height on the tray...

I found this awesome faux fern at HomeGoods and glammed it up a little....

Then I layered in a couple of other perfect HomeGoods finds...

And then nestled the vintage and antique items that I found at consignment to personalize the vignette...

Wrapped it all up....

And guess what?
